At Utopia, we want you to enjoy every moment of your Japanese Head Spa experience and feel the full benefits long after your visit. To help you prepare and care for your scalp and hair, please take a moment to read our simple pre- and post-treatment guidance below.
Pre-treatment advice
To ensure you receive the very best results:
Arrive with dry, product-free hair. Your treatment includes a luxurious cleanse, so there’s no need to wash beforehand. Please avoid applying oils, dry shampoo or styling products on the day, as these can interfere with the scalp analysis and product absorption.
Eat lightly and stay hydrated. A relaxed body enhances the calming, holistic effects of the experience.
Let us know about sensitivities. Please mention any scalp concerns, recent colour services, or skin conditions so that your therapist can tailor the treatment to your individual needs.
Possible side effects
Mild scalp tenderness or sensitivity – particularly if your scalp is dry or if you’re new to massage-based treatments.
Slight redness – due to increased blood flow to the scalp; this usually fades quickly.
Temporary oiliness – as your scalp rebalances its natural sebum levels.
Light-headedness or drowsiness – a common sign of deep relaxation; please take your time when getting up after your treatment.
Headache or tiredness – occasionally experienced as toxins are released and circulation improves.
Mild itching or flaking – if there’s existing dryness or product build-up, gentle exfoliation can initially bring this to the surface.
Increased hair shedding – very minor and short-lived; this is typically due to improved follicle turnover and circulation.
These effects are usually mild and short-term. Most clients feel beautifully refreshed, calm and balanced within hours.

Aftercare advice
Your scalp and hair will continue to benefit in the hours and days following your Head Spa. To maintain and enhance the results:
Avoid washing your hair for 24 hours. This allows the nourishing oils and botanical extracts to fully absorb and rebalance your scalp.
Skip styling products for a day. Give your scalp a little time to breathe and settle naturally.
Avoid heat where possible. Try not to use hot tools or very hot water immediately after your treatment.
Stay hydrated. Drinking water supports the detoxifying and circulatory benefits of your Head Spa.
Expect light natural oiliness. It’s perfectly normal for the scalp to feel slightly nourished as it rebalances.
Embrace the calm. Many clients notice improved sleep, mental clarity, and a deep sense of relaxation afterwards – enjoy the serenity for as long as you can.
